Short Article  - Nisan 11 The Righteous Spirit and Sacred Fire

Nisan 11 The Righteous Spirit and Sacred Fire

 (Luke 12:49-50) “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!”

On Nisan 11 of the year of Jesus’ crucifixion, Jesus saw a fig tree by the road on his way back to Jerusalem.  When He found nothing on it except leaves, He cursed it and the tree immediately withered.

Upon entering the Temple, in indignation, Jesus drove out all who were buying and selling there - the money changers and the vendors.  From that day on till Nisan day 14 (the Passover), no one did businesses for profit again in the Temple.

While in the Temple, Jesus also healed the blind whose eyes were opened to recognize who Jesus truly was; and cured the lame who proceeded to follow Him whole-heartedly.

From this, it’s evidential that since the Israelites had not been “fruitful” to glorify God; blindly rejected the living Messiah, Jesus Christ whose divine presence had been with them for over three years; and been idling purposelessly on God’s land; the Lord was to decidedly abandon them, rewarding instead His followers who were eager to bear fruit for God.

Ineffectual and expendable, the Temple of the Israelites was later destroyed by God.  The new Temple to be rebuilt would be the Body of Christ, the Church of the Lord.  When that day comes, the Lord will purge us all clean with the righteous Spirit and sacred fire.  In the same manner, our Lord Jesus is cleansing you and me with this same righteous Spirit and sacred fire.

1

Jesus, Thine all-victorious love

Shed in my soul abroad;

Then shall my feet no longer rove,

Rooted and fixed in God, Rooted and fixed in God.

2

O that in me the sacred fire

Might now begin to glow,

Burn up the dross of base desire

And make the mountains flow!

And make the mountains flow!

3

O that it now from Heaven might fall,

And all my sins consume!

Come, Holy Ghost, for Thee I call;

Spirit of burning, come!

Spirit of burning, come!

4

Refining fire, go through my heart,

Illuminate my soul;

Scatter Thy life through every part,

And sanctify the whole.

And sanctify the whole.

5

My steadfast soul, from falling free,

Shall then no longer move,

While Christ is all the world to me,

And all my heart is love.

And my heart is love.
