Daytime

Major events

Nisan 8

Thursday

The Passion journey begins on this day. Mary of Bethany anoints Jesus' feet at a welcome party.

Nisan 9

Friday

In the afternoon Jesus rides to Jerusalem with a colt and goes to the temples to see everything.

Nisan 10

Saturday

As Nisan 10 arrives in the evening, Jesus returns to Bethany with the Twelve. And Jesus keeps Sabbath rest for this day.

Nisan 11

Sunday

On the way back to Jerusalem, Jesus curses a barren fig tree. After entering the temple, Jesus casts out  moneychangers and animal sellers and heals the blind and lame who come to Him.

Nisan 12

Monday

Jesus confronts and condemns the chief priests, scribes and elders in the temple. On the mountain olives, He prophesies the events of the last days. And then he announces the last time that he is to be crucified.

Nisan 13

Tuesday

At evening meal, a woman anoints His head for His burial. In the morning, Judas betrays Him to the high priest for 30 pieces of silver. In the afternoon Jesus sends Peter and John to prepare for the Passover commemoration.

Nisan 14

Wednesday

At sunset, Jesus and the twelve observe the last Passover. In Gethsemane, in the later evening, Jesus is betrayed, and is led captive to Sanhedrin to be judged.  In the morning, Jesus is handed to Pilate and Herod Antipas for questions.  Finally Jesus is falsely charged for treason against Rome and condemned to be crucified.  Around 9 AM Jesus carries His own cross, winds through Via Dolarosa, is lifted on the cross on Mt. Cavalry and He breaths His last around 3 PM. Just before sunset, Joseph of Arimethea and Nicodemus placed Jesus in a brand new tomb in a garden.

Nisan 15

Thursday

The first day Jesus rests in the heart of the earth. The chief priest and his people entreat Pilate to seal the stone of the tomb and to post guards to secure the tomb for three days.

Nisan 16

Friday

On the second day Jesus is resting in the heart of the earth. The women buy and prepare spices then attempt immediately to anoint Jesus but are repelled by the guards.

Nisan 17

Saturday

On the third day Jesus is resting in the heart of the earth. Before this Sabbath is over, even the guards continually keep alert they are not aware of, do not witness, do not catch that Jesus has risen already while the stone of the tomb and the seals are all in original perfect conditions, not a bit has broken nor displaced.

Nisan 18

Sunday

In the morning, an angel rolls away the empty tomb and let both the women and the guards witness the empty tomb.  Jesus makes His first resurrection appearances, first to Mary Magdalene and other women and then in the afternoon to two disciples on their way from Jerusalem to Emmaus

Nisan 19

Monday

In the evening, in a room with the windows and the doors are shut, the eleven  gather together with those who are with them and two disciples returning from Emmaus.  As they are talking about the appearances of Jesus on that day, Jesus Himself suddenly stands in their midst

Lyar 27

Thursday

Exactly 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection, He leads about 120 disciples out as far as Bethany, and He lifts up His hands and blesses them. While He is blessing them, He parts from them and is carried up into heaven.

Sivan 8

Sunday

The first Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection, Holy Spirit appears to disciples gathered in Jerusalem. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they are all filled with the Holy Spirit and the apostles preach  “God has made this same Jesus whom you have crucified both Lord and Christ”.  Those who have received this word are baptized; and that day there are added about three thousand souls.

16:1When the Sabbath(Nisan 15) was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. (On Nisan 16 they did attempt to anoint Jesus, but repelled by the guards )

28:1Now after the Sabbath(Nisan 17), as it began to dawn toward the first day(Nisan 18) of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. (The two wandered around for a long time and then returned very late- conclusion from Luke 24:1&10)

16:2Very early on the first day (Nisan 18) of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?"

24:1But on the first day (Nisan 18) of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

20:1Now on the first day (Nisan 18) of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was still dark,

28:2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.4The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.

16:4Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.

24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; 5and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground,

20:1b and saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.

28:5The angel said to the women,

16:6And he said to them,

24:5bthe men said to them,

28:5b "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 "Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."

16:6b-7“Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. “But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’”

24:5c-7“Why do you seek the living One among the dead? “He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

28:8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.

16:8They went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

24:8-10And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.

20:2 So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”

20:3-5 So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; and stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in.

24:11-12But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only;

20:6-7 And so Simon Peter also came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself

24:12e and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.

20:8-10 So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. For as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes.

28:9-10 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me."

20:11-17 But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!”. Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’”

16:9-11Now after He had risen early on the first day (Nisan 18) of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they refused to believe it.

20:18 Mary Magdalene came, announcing to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.

28:11-15  Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’ “And if this should come to the governor’s ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.” And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.

16:12 After that, He appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking along on their way to the country.

24:13-32 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad. One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?” And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. “But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. “Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! “Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He were going farther. But they urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, (Nisan 19) and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

16:13They went away and reported it to the others, but they did not believe them either.

24:33-36 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them, saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon.” They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. While they were telling these things,

16:14 Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen.

24:36b-49He Himself stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be to you.” But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit. And He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? “See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; and He took it and ate it before them. Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

20:19-23 So when it was evening(Nisan 19) on that day, the first day(Nisan 18) of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. “If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”

20:24-29 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”     After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

28:16-20 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

16:15-18And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. “These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

16:19-20So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.

24:50-53 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising God.

Matthew 28:1

In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. [King James]

Now late on Sabbath, as it was the dusk of the next day after Sabbath, came Mary of Magdala and the other Mary to look at the sepulcher.  [Darby Bible]

And after the Sabbaths, it being dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.  [Berean Literal Bible]

[Matthew 28:1 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.]

The first day of dusk came, Mary Magdalene, eagerly expecting the Roman soldiers to leave one night early, because never seen before that the Roman soldier guarded the Jewish grave, came to the sepulcher with another Mary.  In the distance of the tomb, they observed.  if Roman left, they would be able to anoint the Lord earlier. Moreover, Pilate's decision was hard to foreseen, not long before Pilate had a few Galileans who defied Roman law killed just as when they sacrificed in the temple, and the stream of blood mingled with their offerings (Luke 13:1)

They were afraid that the Roman soldiers eventually were rude to the Lord's body by making extreme humiliation behavior.  The sisters’ love pressed them, and worriedly they came to visit the tomb.  They were wandering for a long time around the area, but no sign of Roman soldier leaving. The night went deep, not knowing how late it was.  They went home and waited patiently until the dawn of 18th, when the Romans surely departed.
